His Excellency explained that those who follow the path of scientific, artistic and cultural progress in Bahrain throughout history will find that it is based on many foundations that contributed to its development, the first of which is the state’s patronage to sciences, literature and arts, and its encouragement of scientific research and the provision of a healthy environment and preparing it for that, the second of which is the civil initiatives supporting the establishment of specialised associations and their effective contribution through their role complementary to the official efforts, and the third is the innate readiness that the people of Bahrain have in their love of knowledge, perusal and information.
This came when His Excellency, this morning Tuesday, 23 January, 2024, in the presence of His Excellency Mr Ali bin Saleh Al-Saleh, President of the Shura Council, and a number of Their Excellencies the ministers and officials, and those interested in scientific, artistic and cultural affairs, honoured the winners of The Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo Award in its Eleventh Season.
His Excellency Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla also praised the contributions of Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo Company, which come within its belief in the concept of corporate social responsibility, which is in the interest of levering the society and developing its members in all aspects, especially the scientific, artistic and cultural aspects, and its support for scientific research and arts through The Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo Award, which was launched 25 years ago as a prestigious award of appreciation in Bahrain and the region.
His Excellency expressed his wishes of good luck and success to the Award winners from Bahrain and the Arab world in their scientific and artistic careers, and that they employ their knowledge and skills in a way that contributes to the service of their countries, and in a way that inures good and benefit to the progress and prosperity of sciences and arts of all kinds.
The Dignitary Khalid Mohamed Kanoo, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo Award, extended his sincere thanks and gratitude to His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister for his kindness in attending the Honourary Ceremony for the winners of the Award, hailing the role of His Excellency in supporting the initiatives adopted by the private sector, stressing the Award’s keenness to highlight the works of creative people and talented people since its establishment.
During the ceremony, Dr Hassan Ibrahim Kamal, a member of the Board of Trustees of The Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo Award, gave a speech in which he referred to the idea of the Award, its establishment, its objectives, and the contributions of the Kanoo Family in the field of humanitarian and charitable works and social responsibility, praising its generous giving and its adoption of the initiatives that aim at serving science and scientific research.
Mr Mohammed Abdulrahman Darwish, the Secretary General of The Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo Award, then gave a speech in which he talked about the high demand for participation in the current season of the Award compared to the previous seasons, thanking the cooperating parties that contributed to disseminating its goals and competitions to the largest possible number of interested people.
Then, His Excellency Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa honoured the members of the Judging Committees and the Award winners, as the First Prize in the field of Economic Research, valued at 30,000 dollars, was won by the Egyptian academic Dr Marwan Mohammed Abdeldayem, Associate Professor of Business Administration at the University of Applied Sciences, jointly with the Algerian academic Dr Alwalid Qassoum Missaoui, a lecturer at the Faculty of Science, Economics and Management Sciences at the University of Setif, Algeria, who presented extensive research on the Corona Pandemic and Economic Recovery, with a focus on the experience of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
In the field of fine arts, which revolved around the topic (Bahraini Women), Zainab Faisal Abdulnabi and Nour Hassan Qawz each won First Place Prize of 10,000 dollars. The Second Place Prize of 7,000 dollars was won by Fawaz Mohammed Abdulla, and Eman Hussein Ali and Maryam Isa Ahmed, each won Third Place Prize of 5,000 dollars. In the field of University Scientific Research in cooperation with Bahrain Polytechnic, student Maryam Ahmed Abbas won First Place Prize, 10,000 dollars, student Shehab Tariq Habib won Second Place Prize, 7,000 dollars, while student Ali Khalil Al Halal won Third Place Prize, 5,000 dollars.
