The Yusuf bin Ahmed Kanoo Award for University Students is a competition that encourages students to work on scientific and engineering projects that transform creativity, technical knowledge, and imagination into practical solutions to real-world problems.Competition

Projects may address challenges affecting Bahrain, the region, or the wider world. The Award aims to help promising ideas progress into prototypes for larger projects or commercial products.

The competition invites students to answer one key question:

What modern problem can you solve in a new and better way?

Eligibility

The Award is open to:

• Undergraduate and postgraduate students
• Students studying engineering or related disciplines
• Individual students or student teams

Priority Areas

Projects may focus on:

• Artificial intelligence and digital technology
• Energy and Environmental Sustainability
• Smart cities, transportation and infrastructure

Submission Requirements

Each project should clearly explain:

• The problem being addressed
• The proposed innovation
• Its technical and practical feasibility
• Its potential social, economic or environmental impact

Innovation may involve an invention, an improvement to an existing solution, a new application of technology, or an innovative process, service, or system.

Evaluation Criteria

Projects will be evaluated according to:

• Relevance and significance
• Innovation and originality
• Practical feasibility
• Potential impact
• Sustainability and scalability

Submission Requirements:

• All submitted Applications or Projects must be original.
• The Application or Project must not have been submitted for any previous awards.
• A detailed document explaining the functionality and innovation behind the Application or Project should be submitted to Kanoo.award@kanoo.com on the date of submission.
• The Application or Project should be fully functioning for a period of five months after the submission date for evaluation purposes.
• A group of students is allowed to work on one Application or Project. In case of winning, the cash prize will be divided equally among them all.
• A university tutor is allowed to supervise the Application or Project. In case of winning, the cash prize will be divided as follows: 60% for the student/students and 40% for the university tutor.
• Bahraini and non-Bahraini students and tutors in Bahrain-based universities are allowed to participate.
